A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to enter the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa, which is placed in the traveler’s passport, a travel document issued by the traveler’s country of citizenship. Identify the type of Visa you are applying for.

The student visa is F-1, whereas the Business or tourist visa is J-1 visa.

Complete the DS-160 Form

DS-160 form is a visa application form, which basically isn't a visa. People mostly get confused with this. All information must be correct and accurate. Once the form is submitted, you cannot make any changes

Payment

Once the form is filled and the confirmation is done, you have to pay the visa fee.

Appointment date

After you pay the visa fee, you schedule the appointment in the available dates. You will need: Your passport number. The receipt number from your Visa Fee receipt. The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page. As you go through the process you will be able to select your visa type, enter personal data, add dependents, select your document delivery location, confirm visa payment, and schedule your appointment.

At the time of interview

Visit the U.S. Embassy or Consulate on the date and time of your visa interview. Be sure to take the confirmation page and the necessary documentation needed for your appointment.

Visa Decision

As soon as your interview concludes you will have your visa decision. If your visa application is approved, your passport and visa can be collected from the pickup location you selected when you scheduled for interview appointment.
